![]() ![]() from a place like ampwares for alot cheaper than my local amp tech would charge for the parts, if I had a parts list for this particular amp (particularly what cap values, etc. I figure I could order all new caps, pots, jacks, tube sockets, etc. I opened the amp up this morning to see what capacitors, etc, were used in the amp (I'm a complete electronics newbie when it comes to knowing what parts I'm looking at), and it doesn't look like a whole lot of parts. It has the 3 prong red plug end, but I think it could stand to have a heavy duty one. ![]() How much would a full cap job cost for a small amp like this? I'm also assuming that it could use new volume & tone pots, and a new cord. Is this normal for this amp? If not, what would fix this harshness? I'm assuming that there are some capacitors that are leaking, etc. ![]() It sounded this way both before and after the speaker change.Īlso, the tone knob gets real bright & harsh sounding anywhere above "2" on the dial. The main problem is that the amp has a buzz to it even after trying out different preamp and power tubes, and cleaning all the jacks & pots w/ electronic cleaner. Ha! Had an aluminum dome that looked like it was kicked in by gnomes, so I replaced it with a Weber Signature 12B speaker- much better, but the amp still sounds fairly bright- I'm thinking a much darker sounding speaker would be a better fit. It had a ratty old Marlboro speaker in it for "musical instrument reproduction". Luckily, it has RCA 6V6GT's and an RCA 12AX7 preamp tube. The cab was nasty smelling when I got it, the tolex is torn in a few places around the edges, and the hardware is fairly rusty. Just got an old Silverface Musicmaster Bass amp and it's in pretty rough shape. ![]()
